A powerful eruption of the Sakurajima volcano occurred in Japan, on the island of Kyushu. Volcanic rocks fell 2.5 km from the volcano. This was reported by Reuters, citing the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
According to a JMA spokesman, the eruption threat level has been raised to the highest and 51 people have been evacuated.

The Sendai Nuclear Power Plant is located approximately 50 km from the volcano. No violations were detected there either.
Sakurajima is one of the most active volcanoes in Japan, with regular eruptions of varying levels. In 2019, it threw ash to a height of 5.5 km.
