James McAvoy: Split actor reveals the role he turned down in Harry Potter

While the world of Harry Potter will soon be adapted into a TV series for HBO, James McAvoy has just revealed during an interview that he almost took part in the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling's literary saga by revealing the role he could have played.

This role in Harry Potter that James McAvoy refused

This Friday, September 13, James McAvoy was Josh Horowitz's guest for his famous podcast Happy Sad Confused. The actor from X-Menlooked back at his filmography, discussed his future projects and also the productions in which he could have appeared but which he ultimately decided not to participate in. Among them, the Harry Potter saga. Despite the fact that the studio offered him a more than interesting salary, James McAvoy declined the offer on the advice of his agent.

As the actor who plays Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class explains, this offer goes back to the very beginning of his career:

I auditioned for this role and I think they wanted to put me under contract. I had hardly worked. And me, and I think ten other actors, they wanted to put us under contract so that they could keep us and choose one of us later. It was really strange.

And here, you are probably wondering what role in the Harry Potter universe James McAvoy almost played? It is Tom Riddle, the real name of Lord Voldemort who is one of the most dangerous wizards of all time. To play this character, McAvoy was offered a fee of 40,000 pounds. But his agent advised him against it because it would have kept him out of work for about seven months. Instead, he signed on for a play for which he was paid £275 a week.

James McAvoy the perfect actor for Tom Riddle according to many fans

This anecdote is quite interesting because a good number of Harry Potter fans regularly choose James McAvoy as the actor who could have perfectly embodied Tom Riddle. Finally, it is Christian Coulson who will play him in The Chamber of Secrets then Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Ralph's nephew who brings Voldemort to life, in a young version of the character in The Half-Blood Prince.

In the rest of the interview, the actor from Split, revealed want to do more sci-fi and comedies.

In the meantime, the reboot of Harry Potter into a TV series, according to information from Variety, the production has officially opened the casting for the characters of Harry, Ron and Hermione. For his part, James McAvoy is currently starring in Speak No Evil, a horror film in which he shares the screen with Aisling Franciosi.
