It's harmful to the psyche. TikTok will ban teenagers from changing their appearance using filters

The TikTok platform has decided to restrict the use of effects that allow you to change your appearance by users under 18.

TikTok says in a blog post that it recently commissioned a multi-market study into the role of online platforms in shaping teens’ identities and relationships. The researchers’ report found that teens and their parents expressed concerns about the use of certain effects that alter a person’s appearance. This is not about funny filters that allow, for example, to put on animal ears, but rather about those that change human features, since the use of such effects may not be obvious to the viewer.

Given this statistics, TikTok will introduce significant changes to the platform in the coming weeks, prohibiting the use of certain effects by underage users.

«The use of certain appearance effects for teenagers under 18 is limited. We will provide more information about how the effect may change the appearance if applied. … We are updating our resources for people developing effects for TikTok Effects House to raise awareness and understanding of some of the unintended consequences that certain effects can cause,” TikTok said.

Distorting your perception of your appearance through the use of filters or consuming content with edited images of the human body is not the only danger minors may encounter on TikTok. NVTechno previously wrote that chrome-editing videos are Inhalation of toxic fumes from household items (nail polish remover, permanent markers, aerosol deodorants, etc.) is actively spreading on TikTok, especially among underage users.
