Israel intercepts ballistic missile launched by Houthis from Yemen

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops shot down a ballistic missile launched by Houthis from Yemen over the country on Sunday morning.

This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to The Times of Israel.

It is noted that warning sirens sounded in central Israel at around 06:30 in the morning.

According to the IDF, The missile was intercepted outside Israel, but the debris fell within the country. There were no reports of serious damage.

Four people were slightly injured as they ran for cover.

The surface-to-surface ballistic missile was shot down by the Arrow 3 (Hetz 3) system. It is designed to destroy ballistic missiles while they are still outside the atmosphere. According to an Israeli Air Force source, the missile was shot down at a “high altitude”.

The Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen later claimed responsibility for the missile launch.
