Israel intercepts ballistic missile fired by Houthis

A ballistic missile fired by Yemeni Houthis was intercepted by Israeli air defenses early Wednesday morning. It was the second night-time attack in the past two days.

The Israeli military reported that the missile's flight caused sirens to sound in central Israel, millions of people went to bomb shelters. Sirens were activated as a precaution against falling rocket fragments.

Israel's national medical service, Magen David Adom, reported that nine people were injured while trying to reach shelters, and two others were treated for acute distress.

A large fragment of an Israeli interceptor rocket was reported to have fallen early Wednesday near a house in the central city of Be'er Ya'akov. The fragment caused minor damage to the yard, but no one was injured.

Israeli police reported other rocket fragments in the Shefela and Modi'in areas, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

This was the fourth time in less than a week that Yemeni Houthis have fired rockets at Israel.
