The President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi is buried in the tomb Mausoleum of Imam Reza – the main Islamic shrine of Iran.
Thousands of people in mourning filled the streets of the Iranian city of Mashhad, where the funeral was held, reports “Voice of America”.
Raisi died on Sunday, May 19, in as a result of a helicopter crash in the mountainous region of the Iranian province of East Azerbaijan in the north-east of the country.
Foreign Minister Hossein Abdollahian and six other people on board were killed in the crash.
Raisi was widely seen as a successor to Iran's 85-year-old Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who holds supreme power in the country.
Many mourners dressed in black and beat their chests and heads, a common practice in Shiite ceremonies .
