Inviting Ukraine to NATO is now quite realistic, says Landsbergis

Fatigue from the Russian-Ukrainian war in the West has reached a record level, and the “Victory Plan” proposed by Volodymyr Zelensky is an attempt to dampen this mood. Ukraine needs security guarantees from NATO.

This was stated by the head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, informs LRT.

According to him, war fatigue in some Western capitals “has reached heights that Ukrainian soldiers would probably never allow themselves to.”

This fatigue makes us look for a solution, which is why we hear more and more talk about “peace”, which in reality – in my opinion – will be more like an offer of capitulation. Therefore, the plan (of victory – ed.) is a very clear pressure and pushing away of these sentiments,” Landsbergis emphasized.

The most important, according to the Lithuanian minister, are security guarantees for Ukraine, and in Europe “there is no better guarantee than the fifth article of NATO.”

The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry noted that inviting Ukraine to NATO is now quite realistic, since there have already been similar examples in history.

Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis disagreed with the arguments that “ordinary Russians” should not suffer from Western sanctions against Russia, since they cannot be considered responsible for the war unleashed by the country's leadership. He published a series of messages on this topic on his X (Twitter).

Apparently, his explanation appeared in response to the statements of Putin critics released in the exchange with the West.

"I hear about the innocence of ordinary Russians, but then I see ordinary Russians killing ordinary Ukrainians. I see ordinary Russian mothers saying goodbye to ordinary Russian sons and wishing them luck with ordinary Russian war crimes. I see ordinary Russians rejoicing over murders," Landsbergis noted.

He continued the list of examples of "ordinary Russians" dressing their small children in military uniforms and making cardboard tank models for them to take part in events, or lining up in a Z-shape.

"Ordinary Russia– is sick. Healing will be a very long and painful process that can only begin when Russia, not just Putin, is defeated. Without defeat in Ukraine, Russia will only continue to expand. Therefore, regarding the "unfair" sanctions against "ordinary Russians" – anything that slows down the Russian machine of total war will have the support of ordinary Lithuanians," the Lithuanian Foreign Minister wrote, ending the thread with the slogan "Glory to Ukraine."
