Inoxtag: Kaizen breaks a new record on YouTube

Since the release of the documentary Kaizen by Inoxtag, the counters have been going crazy on YouTube. His ascent of Everest has just broken a new record on the platform.

The staggering figures of Kaizen, the film by Inoxtag

As everyone knows, Inoxtag caused a sensation with its documentary Kaizen – 1 year to climb Everest, released last Friday in a single screening in nearly 500 theaters in France, Belgium, Quebec, and Morocco, before being broadcast on YouTube immediately afterwards (then on TF1 + from September 28 and on TF1 on October 8). The documentary which traces his ascent of the highest peak in the world is breaking all records, in addition to making headlines in the press.

It would be an understatement to say that Kaizen is a success. In addition to the 340,000 spectators who came to see it on the big screen, no fewer than 21 million people watched Inoxtag's climb in the Himalayas on YouTube, generating 1.7 million likes in the processon the platform, and nearly 120,000 comments. It is “certainly one of the best launches in history” a YouTube spokesperson told AFP.

A new record for Kaizen

If the performance of Kaizen in three short days is notorious, the documentary achieved a much more exceptional feat, since only 24 hours after being posted online, it had already accumulated 11 million views. This is simply the first time that a video has gathered so many followers on D+1. A record previously held by the clip Au DD by PNL. In March 2019, «Au DD»of the famous duo had been watched and listened to 7.5 million times one day after its release.

While it was very well received by the huge Inoxtag community and the general public, the press and some climbing experts were much less enthusiastic. We told you in our columns about the criticisms made by the mountaineer Pascal Tournaire. For its part, Libération regrets “the sanitized and domesticated vision of the mountain”, through “commercialized mountaineering” as well as Sherpas who are not sufficiently highlighted.

What is also criticized by certain environmental media is the absence of any mention of pollution and overcrowding of the site. “Inoxtag has managed the feat of not once mentioning either global warming and its enormous impact on glaciers, or the catastrophic carbon footprint of such a trip” deplores the media outlet Bon Pote.
