Informant who carried out strikes on military facilities in Kharkiv detained

The Security Service of Ukraine detained a 60-year-old man in Kharkiv who worked as an informant for the Russian special services.

He tried to strike Ukrainian military facilities located near his house. SBU press service informs

The man took several photos from the window of his apartment, which depicted one of the objects of the Armed Forces, and sent them via messenger to his Russian curator. Further, his task was to send new photos already after the Russian shelling in order to determine the point of impact and the consequences of the strikes.

According to the SBU, the Russians planned to use rockets and heavy aerial bombs to strike the object. However, timely actions of the SBU made it possible to expose the informant and detain him.

It was also established that this man was engaged in reconnaissance of other targets for possible Russian bombings. He did this under the guise of ordinary walks, going around the area and secretly recording the location of Ukrainian defenders. For the sake of security, he often changed his routes and communicated with the occupiers through an anonymous account.

The detainee was charged under Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which refers to the dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces under martial law. He faces up to 8 years in prison and is being held without bail.
