A military court in Chita sentenced a group of 13 people to terms ranging from four to 23 years in a case of sabotage and preparation for a terrorist attack. This was reported by the court's press service on Wednesday, October 2, Radio Liberty reports.
According to investigators, from December 2022 to January 2023, the group's members committed 13 acts of sabotage at railway and energy infrastructure facilities “in the territories of the city of Moscow and the Krasnoyarsk Territory.” In addition, they allegedly planned to set fire to multi-role fighters in one of the military units in Primorye. The investigation believes that in this way the group members wanted to force the Russian authorities to stop the war in Ukraine.

The other convicts received sentences from eight and a half to 16 years in prison. Alexey Nifontov was sentenced to 4 years for aiding and abetting.
After the invasion of Ukraine, cases of sabotage on the railway and other infrastructure facilities have become more frequent in Russia. Very young people are often arrested for arson. Investigators claim that certain “curators from the Internet” who promise children money incite teenagers to do such things.
No one was killed in the arson. Those arrested on charges after the spring of 2022, when cases became widespread, are most often charged with terrorism. More than 30 cases have already resulted in a verdict, the harshest of which – 19 years in prison – was given to two anti-war activists for setting fire to a city administration building in the Chelyabinsk region.
