In Chernihiv region, former mayor gets 2 years in prison for spreading hostile propaganda

The former mayor of one of the district centers of Chernihiv region was sentenced to two years in prison for spreading hostile propaganda.

This was reported on Facebook by the SBU department in Chernihiv region.

«According to counterintelligence materials of the Security Service of Ukraine, the former head of one of the district centers of Chernihiv region was sentenced to two years in prison. During the occupation of the region, the official disseminated information justifying the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine,» the post says.

It is reported that the counterintelligence officers of the SBU detained the enemy accomplice in February 2023.

It is noted that on the eve of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, the former official was released from prison, where he was serving a sentence for extortion and taking a bribe. Wanting to regain his lost position, he decided to demonstrate to the occupiers that he was ready to cooperate. To do this, the ex-mayor began to spread posts on the Internet that discredited the Defense Forces and popularized the terrorist organizations «L/DPR».

«In particular, while communicating with friends via the Telegram messenger, he distributed a video address by Russian President Putin, as well as a video praising the actions of those who carry out armed aggression against Ukraine», the SBU department specified.

The court found the ex-mayor guilty under Article 436-2 (justification, recognition as lawful, denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, glorification of its participants) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and imposed a sentence of – 2 years of imprisonment.
