Engineers have developed a method that allows robots to perform complex functions without using electricity.

As Interesting Engineering writes, researchers at King's College London have developed a new type of tiny circuit that interacts by changing fluid pressure. “This, for the first time in the world, opens up the possibility of creating a new generation of robots whose bodies could work independently of an embedded control center, and this space could potentially be used for more complex artificial intelligence-based software,”, – says the statement of the team of researchers.

“To solve this problem, scientists are exploring new designs of soft valves and pumps, which can be integrated into the robot's body, increasing efficiency and allowing it to be used in harsh environments. These soft valves, which control fluid flow by bending tubes, reduce the need for multiple controls, – added in the material. 

For example, these robots can work in places where it is impossible to conduct electricity or where there is a high level of radiation, for example, in Chernobyl, or in rooms with high electrical voltage. In addition, these works are designed for use in low-income areas with unstable access to electricity.
