According to calculations Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, 40% of the decisions of the European Union on Ukraine have been blocked or continue to be blocked by Hungary.
This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis.
«About the current Hungary’s position requires transparency,” — he emphasized and noted that it is wrong to consider Budapest’s numerous vetoes as separate episodes.
Landsbergis cited several examples, such as the eighth tranche of military assistance to Ukraine from the European Peace Fund (EPF), new multi-billion dollar revenues for Kiev from of this fund, negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU, which “are hostage in”Hungary”.
And I can go on and on: a joint statement regarding Georgia, assistance from EMF Armenia — almost all of our necessary decisions are blocked by one country,” — he said.
The Minister called for Budapest's actions to be seen as a systematic approach to any EU efforts to play any meaningful role in foreign policy.
«I ;I think that this has already gone very, very far: if you look at it is systemic, then it has a very long track record, it is already a history of obstructing Europe's ability to act, and this needs to be talked about”, — Landsbergis noted.
He emphasized that if this is not countered — we, as a community, “will get stuck, we will be ineffective and we will not be able to move even in those places that are vital to us.”
