Protection from unwanted calls and effective filtering of important information is hardly possible 100%.
However, there are several ways to significantly improve the situation, for example, you can use standard tools on your device to block spam.
The Google calling app that comes with Android has a spam filter. To activate it, go to settings, select «number blocking» and enable the option to block calls from unknown numbers. You can also create your own list of numbers to block.
However, such a basic block can be inconvenient. For example, an unfamiliar number could be a call from your bank to confirm a transaction or an important message from a colleague whose numbers you haven't saved in your contacts yet.
For more advanced filtering, you can use specialized apps. One of the most popular is Truecaller, available for both Android and iOS. This app allows you to identify incoming calls even if the number is not saved in your phone book.
It warns you about unwanted calls using a database of over 150 million users worldwide. Truecaller has real-time spam detection and phone number lookup features.
Another interesting option is Yet Another Call Blocker, a free, open-source app that blocks or warns you about unwanted calls using a third-party crowdsourced database.
However, it is important to remember that using such apps means sharing your data with third parties, which can be even more dangerous than the spam itself.
