It is quite difficult to imagine a day without a smartphone, because it seems to have everything a modern person needs: an alarm clock, notes, many important contacts, entertainment, and more. However, any technology, even the highest quality, wears out. In particular, over time you may notice that your smartphone screen has burned out. This is a fairly common problem, but the situation is not hopeless.
In OLED and AMOLED displays, each pixel emits light separately. Because of this, prolonged display of static images can lead to pixel burn-in on the screen. This is due to their peculiarity: during prolonged loading of pixels, the brightness gradually decreases, which leaves “fingerprints” in the form of a clock, icons or other images.
High screen brightness also contributes to display burn-in, which accelerates pixel wear. Another reason is frequent and prolonged use of the device: the longer the screen remains active without changes, the higher the likelihood of the problem occurring.
Here are some practical tips on how to avoid this effect.
Carefully monitor your display settings. In particular, to avoid the question of what to do if the screen is burned out, follow these steps:
Adjusting the brightness of your smartphone takes no more than a couple of minutes. Activating built-in functions will also help with this. For example, Night Shift and True Tone for Apple devices. On Android devices, you can install the OLED Saver or Blue Light Filter applications. They can be found in the Play Market.
There is another useful function in the phone menu that will help prevent burn-in — dark theme. In modern smartphones, it can be turned on permanently. Some devices switch from light to dark theme depending on the time of day. You can choose a format that is convenient for you. The dark theme reduces the load on the screen. This is especially important for OLED displays, because here the black pixels are actually turned off.
Also set a limit on the time the Always On Display function is on or remove it altogether. Although the option is convenient for users, it creates a load on the pixels and can lead to their burn-in. You can also implement additional measures, such as:
However, what to do if the phone screen is burned out and traces of icons or a clock are already visible on the display, – a bright dynamic video can solve the problem. This is a video with a rapid change of colors. It will revive the burned-out pixels. It is also worth trying the opposite algorithm of actions – completely turn off the smartphone for a while. This way you will give the pixels a little rest, after which they can start working as they should. However, these methods are effective for minor burn-in. If the problem does not disappear, it is better to contact a service center. Sometimes only replacing the display helps to solve it.
Film or glass not only prevents damage to the screen, but can also extend its life. In particular, it is worth choosing a protective accessory with an anti-glare coating that scatters light and reduces its reflection. Thanks to them, you will not have to use the maximum brightness of the display too often. Which, in turn, will reduce the load on the pixels and the possibility of burn-in.
In addition, some films help reduce blue light emission. This also prevents premature wear of the display. You can also buy a case – it will protect sensitive areas of the smartphone when it falls.
Technology will last longer if you treat it with care. An integral part of care is regular cleaning of the screen with special wipes. They will help remove dust and dirt that can cause micro-damage to the display. Wipes made of soft materials are suitable for cleaning. You should also avoid physical pressure on the screen. Do not carry your smartphone in tight pockets or bags without a protective case. This can damage the display and cause the pixels to malfunction.
Do not leave the device in direct sunlight, especially in hot weather, — this will also extend the life of the pixels. When you are not using your smartphone, turn off the screen. Also take care of setting the lock time. The display will automatically turn off when it is not in use, which will increase the life of the pixels. Simple life hacks will help protect the smartphone screen from burn-in. And you can use your favorite model for longer.
