How many Europeans walk or ride a bicycle for at least 30 minutes a day

>> The highest percentage of those who ride bicycles is in the Netherlands/freepik

Bicycles are no longer uncommon on the roads of Ukraine. Our compatriots use it both for walks and for trips to work. Europeans also enjoy cycling.

Many health experts recommend that people walk or ride a bike for at least 30 minutes every day. These simple types of exercise can improve cardiovascular health, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and increase muscle strength and endurance, writes Landgeist.

What percentage of European adults drive 30 minutes per day

As we can see from this map, the number of people who manage to get enough exercise each day varies greatly. There is no country in Europe where the majority of adults walk or cycle for at least 30 minutes every day.

There is one country that comes close: the Netherlands. 44.0% of Dutch adults walk or cycle for at least 30 minutes every day, by far the highest percentage of any country in Europe. Dutch cycling culture certainly contributes a lot to this high figure.

Slovakia (25.4%) and Denmark (25.3%) also stand out. In both countries, more than a quarter of the adult population walks or cycles at least 30 minutes a day. These three countries also have lower obesity rates compared to other European countries.

It is interesting that the percentage decreases as you move to the south of Europe (with the exception of Iceland). Spain (5.5%), Turkey (3.4%), Portugal (2.8%), Malta (2.3%) and Cyprus (0.1%) have the lowest percentage of adults who walk or drive bike for at least 30 minutes a day. The percentage in Cyprus is especiallyshockingly low.
