HBO cancels this excellent series after its second season

A few days before the arrival of the Max platform in France, we learned that HBO has canceled one of its best current series.

The end of a great series

Tuesday June 11, 2024,French film buffs and moviegoers will be able to discover Max, the SVOD from the Warner group launched in 2019. in 2020 in the United States under the name HBO Max, before being renamed HBO Max. in 2023. The catalog will include major HBO series, of course, such asGame of Thrones,House of the Dragon,The Sopranos em>,The WireBoardwalk Empire or even Westworld and Peacemaker, but also the films by Warner Bros (theHarry Pottersaga, thetrilogyThe HobbitMad Max: Fury Road, the films of Christopher Nolan).

However, the arrival of the platform on our territory comes with bad news: the seriesTokyo Vice, launched in April 2022, has just been canceled by Max. Produced by the legendary Michael Mann (Heat, Miami Vice) who also produced the first episode, the series broadcast in France by Canal+ was released. warmly received by the press and the public. The second season, which ended on April 4, 2024, obtained a satisfaction rate of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Advertised onDeadline, the cancellation of Tokyo Vice was not confirmed. justified by Max, but it is assumed that the increase in production costs in Japan – which resulted in a slowdown in the filming of the second season – and the difficulties ;s economic problems that Warner Bros. is going through. Discovery in recent years is not for nothing in this decision

Moreover, this new cancellation confirms a change in policy the management of Warner Bros. and Max, who undermines the aura of HBO. The legendary cable channel has for a long time had the reputation of a channel that treats its articles well, going through with their approach without regard to the audiences. We are thinking in particular of; the series The Wire by David Simon, which was able to go as far as its fifth season, despite its low audiences. In recent years, we've had a staggering number of canceled series, from Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy's Westworld to the animated seriesScavengers Reign
