HBO has launched production of the reboot of the Harry Potter film saga to turn it into a television series. While the channel has officially opened the casting to find the young actors who will play the three main characters in the franchise, fans are still waiting to know the identity of the actors who will take on the roles of the adult characters imagined by J.K. Rowling. Among them, certainly one of the most popular: Albus Dumbledore. However, this actor, considered perfect by the public has just destroyed all the hopes of the young wizard's fans.

HBO's Harry Potter series divides fans

The project to adapt J.K. Rowling's work, Harry Potter, into a TV series after the success of the films released in theaters, divides many fans of the young wizard with round glasses. HBO is therefore planning a reboot of the film saga by re-staging the same characters as in the films but with new actors. Moreover, the American channel has announced the opening of the casting to find the perfect actors to embody the main characters namely Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

As for the adult characters imagined by the British author, rumors are circulating about the name of the person who could land in the project to bring Lord Voldemort to life. Recently Oscar-winning for Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is reportedly tipped to succeed Ralph Fiennes. Last week, it was the actor Gary Oldman who played the role of Sirius Black who had not hidden his desire to join the Harry Potter series for HBO to play Albus Dumbledore, the famous director of Hogwarts.

This actor perfect to play Dumbledore says he will not be in the HBO series

Today, it's another actor, considered perfect by many fans to play the headmaster of the school of witchcraft, who has simply dashed the public's hopes of seeing him land on the HBO show. Indeed, in a recent interview, Jared Harris (Mad Men, Foundation, The Crown), Richard Harris' son said that if the production were to offer him the role at the cinema by his father for the TV series, he would decline the offer.

In the first two films, Dumbledore was played by Richard Harris before being replaced by Michael Gambon in the remaining installments following the actor's death in October 2002. Asked if he was interested in the role for the HBO reboot, Harris replied:

No, thank you. Plus, I mean, why do it? I don't get it. The movies were fantastic, leave them alone.

But the actor clarifies that the movies didn't adapt everything from Rowling's novels and that the series will be able to exploit them more. As a reminder, fans were hoping to see Jared Harris cast as Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts but at the time, he said he hadn't been approached. It's not yet now that the fans' wish will come true.
