And he's not done with Hogwarts yet! Indeed, Tom Riddle will soon return to sow terror on our screens thanks to the series co-produced by HBO and Warner Bros.. Cillian Murphy

Harry Potter: 4 perfect actors to play Voldemort in the HBO series

How can we not put the incomparable actor of Peaky Blinders at the top of this ranking? According to rumors, the actor, recently Oscar-winning for Oppenheimer, would be well on his way to landing the role of this terrible villain. But why so much enthusiasm for the 48-year-old Irish star? Physically, already, the one who lent his features to Thomas Shelby for almost a decade has an almost disturbing coldness and hardness. His gaze and posture keep the other actors in check, while his subtle acting range would offer us a Voldemort more mysterious than ever.

Andrew Scott

Harry Potter: 4 perfect actors to play Voldemort in the HBO series

The star of Fleabag and BBC's Sherlock (Jim Moriarty) can play it all, with a strength and sensitivity that make him a much sought-after actor. Whether you're watching him play the defrocked priest in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's series or the evil genius opposite the most famous detectiveHistory, Andrew Scott fascinates. He is far from being a Hollywood hunk, and yet the magic works: his unfussy charisma, nestled in the modest flaws of his characters, grants him the public's favor. And since it is precisely magic that is in question here, perhaps he would even be able to make Voldemort more “human”!

Nicholas Hoult

Harry Potter: 4 Perfect Actors to Play Voldemort in the HBO Series

Nicholas Hoult is one of those classic Hollywood cases of handsome guys like Collin Farrell and Tom Hardy, first selected for young leading roles before flourishing in the skin of disturbing and bizarre characters. We certainly loved the British actor in Clash of the Titans and then as Fauve in X-Men, but what about his whimsical and hammy performance as Peter III of Russia in the satirical historical series The Great? Capable of shooting you and then declaring his love for you, this tyrant character is a life-size CV for any complicated role. At 1.90 meters tall, the former star of Skins would offer us an even crazier Voldemort than Ralph Fiennes!

Finn Cole

Harry Potter: 4 perfect actors to play Voldemort in the HBO series

In the “fearsome handsome guy” genre, Finn Cole is rather well placed. Second actor from Peaky Blinders to find himself in our selection, the 28-year-oldhas a disturbing and domineering attitude that is perfect for slipping into the skin of a bad guy. If Michael Gray is not strictly speaking a movie villain, we can't say that he's a softie either! And we don't know about you, but it seems to us that the actor shares with Christian Coulson, the Tom Riddle of the Harry Potter films, the same pretentious air. Sure, he's a little young to play the main antagonist of the HBO series, but that would allow to put some real distance between him and Ralph Fiennes (who was in his forties in The Philosopher's Stone).

This selection is quite short, and made up of only British actors (and one Irishman) to stick to J.K. Rowling's wishes. And you, who would be your number 1 choice for the next Voldemort?
