Grok breaks free from X to become autonomous

F. Froger/Z9, for France-Soir

Grok, the chatbot developed by Elon Musk's company xAI, is preparing its great escape from X (formerly Twitter) to establish itself as an AI application autonomous. With image generation features and a link to real-time news, Grok could well redefine the competition in a sector already dominated by giants such as ChatGPT.

Unsurprisingly, conquering social networks was not the billionaire's only goal. Grok, his AI that cut its teeth on X, is gradually leaving the ship to sail alone towards new horizons. A decision that will, for better or for worse, give more autonomy to the tool. After a test phase in Australia, Grok announced its autonomous version, ready to compete with AI giants such as ChatGPT, without requiring X. Starting in January, a free version will allow everyone to explore its capabilities.

And Musk's AI is not just a simple digital assistant. According to Digital Century, its Flux AI image generator, capable of producing photorealistic visuals, clearly stands out from other tools on the market. But what could really propel Grok to the front of the pack is its ability to provide real-time information, thanks to its internet connection. An undeniable advantage over models like ChatGPT, which are content with fixed data.

But the path to independence is not without raising questions: who controls the information disseminated and what impact could this have on society or politics ? If Elon Musk regularly boasts about the transparency of his projects, the result is never guaranteed…  Especially since we do not yet know what the AI of tomorrow will be capable of.
