Godzilla Minus One: the film is being re-released in theaters in France in this new version

Several months after its eventful release in France, the film Godzilla: Minus One will soon be entitled to a new release in a new version. We tell you everything!

Godzilla back in theaters

2023 will have been a particularly rich year for Japanese soft power. Between the release of The City and its Uncertain Walls, Haruki Murakami's new novel (his first since The Commander's Murder in 2017), the May launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Nintendo Switch, the release of the animated films Suzume by Makoto Shinkai and The Boy and the Heron by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki (his first film since The Wind Risesin 2013), as well as the dominance of studio MAPPA, which released three blockbuster series (season 2 of Vinland Saga, season 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen and the conclusion of Attack on Titan), Japanese culture fans were particularly spoiled!

We must of course also mention the release of the phenomenon Godzilla: Minus One by Takashi Yamazaki, the first Japanese feature film about the King of the Monsters since the excellent Shin Godzilla by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi in 2016. The film, which had two limited releases in France in December 2023 and January 2024, impressed critics and spectators alike. The effectiveness of its story, which returns to the foundations of the Godzilla myth (finally once again a metaphor for the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki), and the beauty of its special effects (despite an estimated budget of 15 million dollars) have been praised on both sides of the Atlantic. Godzilla: Minus One also won the Oscar for best visual effects, confirming the enormous lesson that Takashi Yamazaki has given to Hollywood cinema.

While the French distributor All The Anime has announced a DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K Blu-Ray release in the territory for the end of 2024, we learn today that Godzilla: Minus One will benefit from a new release in cinemas, in its black and white version. A great opportunity to rediscover the film in a completely new setting. This new release ;event is scheduled for Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 November 2024. We can't wait!
