The technology company ARX Robotics, founded by veterans of the German armed forces, presented Mithra OS – an operating system that turns military equipment into autonomous and interconnected units. This technology allows you to equip machines with cameras, sensors and provides regular updates via the ARX Autonomy Kit, informs Interesting Engineering.
The company has already received a contract from the German government to supply its products to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In June, ARX Robotics attracted € 9 million investment from NATO Innovation Fund and other venture funds.
ARX Robotics founder Mark Witfeld emphasizes that the modern battlefield requires digital solutions. However, many NATO military units still use outdated analog systems. For example, 3 500 Mercedes trucks purchased by the German army do not have software or even radio communication.
Mithra OS allows you to modernize old equipment without replacing it, creating a single ecosystem where even Leopard or Challenger tanks can interact with other units through open interfaces. This solution has already demonstrated its necessity in the context of the war in Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of autonomous systems and inter-network interaction.
According to Whitfeld, ARX Robotics has virtually no competitors in this segment, and the company's developments are a response to the urgent need to modernize outdated fleets in NATO's armed forces.
