German developers integrate the IRIS-T SLM high-precision missile system into F125-class frigates

Germany is considering integrating the IRIS-T SLM missile system into its F125-class frigates. The decision is aimed at improving the ships' defensive capabilities against air threats and reflects Germany's efforts to modernize its fleet in the face of growing threats in Europe, Naval News reports.

The IRIS-T SLM system is a medium-range precision anti-aircraft missile that can effectively intercept aircraft, drones and missiles. Its integration into frigates will significantly increase the ships' ability to self-defense and ensure the protection of strategically important objects in the maritime zone.

The F125 frigates, also known as the  Baden-Württemberg» class, are already equipped with modern fire control systems and various sensors, which makes them ideal platforms for the integration of additional weapons systems. Preliminary tests have shown that the IRIS-T SLM missiles can be easily adapted for maritime use, providing high maneuverability and accuracy in hitting targets.

The IRIS-T SLM integration project is in the research stage, and Germany is currently assessing the technical requirements, financial costs and implementation timeframe. The successful completion of this initiative could be an important step in strengthening the German Navy's ability to respond to new security challenges.
