Funeral allowance will go up. Specific date announced

The funeral allowance will go up. We will have to wait for that.

As reported by the “Super Express” portal, there are many indications that the funeral allowance will go up, although we will have to wait for it to be increased. Although the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy has called for it to be raised as early as 2025, it is already known that it will not be possible to introduce it so soon.

Funeral allowance up, but not yet

The Journal reminds that in November of this year, the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers decided to resume work on raising the amount of the funeral allowance. At the moment, the most likely date for the changes to come into force is January 1, 2025.

This means that the amount of the benefit will remain at the level of PLN 4,000 for at least another year. The benefit has been paid at this level since 2011, although its amount has long ceased to correspond to the costs of burial.

The project developed by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy assumes raising the benefit to PLN 7,000 and its indexation. The amount of the increase was the subject of a lively discussion between the ministries. The Ministry of Finance proposes that the increase amount to PLN 6,450. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy does not want to agree to this.

Funeral costs are definitely higher

Representatives of the Ministry of Family emphasize that currently a funeral costs 8-10 thousand zlotys. Of course, the final costs depend on the region where the burial is organized.

The project also provides for the increased amount to be subject to annual indexation. This would be calculated based on the inflation rate, which is increased in March by the inflation rate.

The final decision has not been made yet.
