Living with a Mother-in-Law – A Blessing or a Curse?

Moving into an apartment that is half owned by my mother-in-law was a dream come true for me at first. However, it quickly turned out that living under one roof with my mother-in-law is quite a challenge! Every argument with her new husband ends with her coming back to us, and I feel my eyelids quiver at the thought of her critical remarks.

Cooking, doing laundry, or even folding my husband's shirts – everything becomes a battlefield. My mother-in-law's criticism can ruin my nerves for weeks. My husband, although he knows his mother's temperament very well, does not want to agree to move to another apartment. For him, it is easier to endure these oddities, which I perceive as a real nightmare.

Is there any hope for us? Maybe it's worth thinking about our own four walls, which will be free from her rules? I've been toying with this idea for two months now, since my mother-in-law's last visit.

I understand that saving up will take longer because we have to pay rent, and my mother-in-law might take it her way and get offended, but I can't live in this madhouse named after my husband's mother any longer.

My mother-in-law's visits were becoming more and more burdensome for me. Well, I can't get used to her, suffering for a day or two is one thing, but living in such a rhythm of tension and scandals that are constantly raging — Sorry, I'm not used to this.

Even the argument that half of the apartment belongs to my husband didn't work. My mother-in-law started screaming that he hadn't paid a dime for it and that he had become the owner because his father had left his share to his son during the divorce. My husband tried not to get involved in the dispute with my mother, only getting involved when he thought she was going too far. At times like these, I was ready to run away from home because I couldn't take it anymore.

Living in close quarters with your mother-in-law is definitely a situation that requires a lot of patience and understanding. Is it a blessing or a curse? the decision is ours!
