From real life. “Mother gave my daughter's clothes to someone else's granddaughter without permission”: She accused me of pettiness

This year's autumn was grey and rainy. In such weather, one always feels a bit depressed.

I came back from work soaking wet because I forgot my umbrella. What I wanted most was a hot cup of tea and a warm bed. I haven't been getting enough sleep lately, plus the autumn lack of vitamins and so on.

As I was taking off my wet coat and shoes, I heard my daughter Krysia shouting something from her room. “Not this,” I thought.

“Mom, where are my new dresses…” my daughter's voice sounded so pitiful that my heart clenched with anxiety. I walked down the hall and looked into her room. Krysia was standing in front of the closet, helplessly sorting through the hangers, which only held T-shirts and pants. I felt a surge of anger. Trying to stay calm, I approached my daughter and patted her on the head – “Let's think about where they could have gone.”

I thought that Krysia had decided to play a joke on me and arranged another prank, but at that moment my mother appeared in the doorway. Her face was so impassive that I couldn't even think about this woman's involvement in the disappearance of the dresses. However, I decided to play along:

-Mom, do you know where Krysia's new dresses? went – I asked, barely able to contain my irritation at the staging and ridiculousness of the situation. Mother shrugged and nervously looked around the room.

-I gave them to Ola – she said calmly and, as if nothing had happened, sat down on the sofa by the window. Krysia immediately froze like a statue and looked at me questioningly.

-What? Are you serious, Mom? – I said, anger boiling with new energy – these are new things! What was wrong with the pink dress with sequins? I bought it for the holidays! In a panic, I started looking through the clothes in my closet and discovered that a few things were still missing.

-So what? – Mom raised her arms — Ola said that her granddaughter was growing up fast and they didn't have money for new clothes. I couldn't refuse, knowing that some things just lay there and gathered dust.

-They just lay there and gathered dust?! – I repeated with a challenge.

-You couldn't have at least asked? Krysia is going to her friend's birthday party in two days. I'll have to buy a new dress!

-Oh, come on! – Mom waved her hand, standing up — You've got a bit of a temper, little darling. Remember how hard our lives were? How we raised you, what you wore? Now your Krysia's closets are full of clothes, and you're still not happy. And you've spoiled that little one. Look how she screams!

-It's not about the amount of clothes, it's about respect – my voice was shaking with resentment – These aren't your things and only I can decide what to do with them. Tomorrow you'll go and buy everything you gave away with your own money!

-Mom pursed her lips and her eyes flashed with anger — How petty you are! That's not what I taught you as a child! – she shouted and went to her room, slamming the door.

I turned to my daughter, who was standing quietly next to me, barely holding back tears. I sat down in front of her and hugged her tightly.

-I promise I'll buy you a few new dresses. Tomorrow we'll go shopping, okay?

-I wanted to be pretty at Madzia's party — Krysia whispered. Her words sounded so sad that at that moment I was ready to cry with her. We sat like that for a few more minutes until my daughter snuggled up to me and nuzzled my shoulder. My heart ached, and resentment, anger, and helplessness all rolled into one. My mother didn’t seem to understand one simple thing: even though we lived together, even though she had helped me throughout my life, interfering in it and making decisions for me was too much.

The evening was long, full of silence and reflection. The next day, my daughter and I went to freshen up our wardrobes. As expected, my mother didn’t come with us. When I was at the mall with my daughter, my mother transferred money to my card.

Yes, I know my mother will be angry and resentful for a long time, but this gesture showed that she still has a conscience and common sense. I hope she will now think twice before touching other people's things without permission.

Take a look: Drink the coffee and add the leftovers to the pot with the clod. This will make the plant shower with flowers
