This year, my mother celebrates her sixtieth birthday. She decided to gather all her family and friends, and she really insisted that my husband and I also come, and in our own car.

My husband has a new, expensive SUV. My mother, of course, wanted her family to see it and admire it. She generally likes to brag about my wealth, and it was visible at the wedding: she almost burst with pride. But I immediately explained to her that we definitely wouldn't go by car.

After all, a ten-hour drive is a very difficult journey for me now, even if it's a very comfortable car. I explained to my mother what the problem was, she made a terrible scene because she had already told my relatives that their jaws would drop when I came with my husband.
