From real life. “I cut myself off from them because of the inheritance”: Mom wants money for renovation, stepfather for car repairs, and sister for a seaside stay

Now everyone in our family knows that I am a horrible person, the likes of which the world has never seen.

They invested time, resources, love in me, and I used my relatives, and then I used them for money, taking the inheritance. This is the official version of my parents, if I may say so. In reality, everything was completely different, I was raised in my stepfather's family.

I mean, my mother divorced my father, and he successfully got sober, or so I was told. And then my mother remarried. That gave me a stepfather who never tried to be my father, except for the pats on the back of the head that he gave me with a generous hand.

In her second marriage, my mother had a sister, and we are seven years apart. Of course, my stepfather loved his child and treated her much better. My mother also loved my sister more because she was born to a normal man and I was to an alcoholic. I once told my mother that she chose that man herself, so she can't blame me. I've never been spanked so hard by her before. My grandmother, my mother's mother, was there too. She wanted to take me to her place, but who would let her.

First, things at home wouldn't change by themselves, and second, my mother and grandmother were at odds. Grandma didn't like the fact that my mother kept me on a tight leash, but she let my other daughter do whatever she wanted and treated her better. Grandma wasn't with my younger sister. The girl was spoiled beyond measure, and Grandma didn't approve of that. She tried to influence her several times, but she was insurmountable in this matter, and my mother attacked Grandma with reproaches.

My grandmother didn't get along with my son-in-law either. She didn't like him because he treated me badly. My grandmother believed that if a man marries a woman with a child, he should treat them well. But neither my mother nor my stepfather shared her opinion. In short, I was the only person in the family who communicated with my grandmother. She didn't leave me alone either, but at least she loved me, took care of me, and tried to teach me something about life. It's a kind of strict love that comes with constant nagging. When I turned twenty-three, my grandmother started to give up. She had a heart attack and her health deteriorated rapidly.

I lived in a neighboring city where I finished my studies. I had a job there and some plans were already taking shape, but my grandmother's illness threw me off guard. After talking to my mother, I realized that she would not take care of my grandmother. She asked me to do it, so what now? I realized that it was either me or no one. I quit my job and moved in with my grandmother, who kept complaining that I had organized everything for nothing, that she could have managed on her own.

We lived a normal year. My grandmother even brightened up after I moved, we could go to the theater and for walks in the nearest park. Then her condition worsened. My mother called every now and then to see how we were doing, and the news that my grandmother was getting worse didn't even worry her. She didn't offer any help, didn't ask if I needed anything. I went to the hospital to see my grandmother and made funeral arrangements myself when my grandmother died.

During the funeral, my mother stood with a mournful face and accepted the condolences and money that relatives and friends pushed at her. I didn't get a penny of that money, even though the funeral and wake were at my expense. When everyone had left, my mother asked if I had registered here, because if so, I had to move out immediately because she was going to sell the apartment. “At least we'll do some normal renovations, fix the car, my daughter is asking for a trip to the seaside,” my mother explained, as if she hadn't buried my grandmother two hours ago.

I burst into wild laughter. Emotions took over, it was almost hysterical, but there was a reason for it. My mother didn't know that my grandmother had given me the apartment when I started taking care of her. She also wrote a will for me so that the money from her book would go to me. My mother thought she would be the sole heir. When I managed to explain this, my mother was furious and demanded that I give her the money when I received it and give her the apartment, otherwise she would go to court. I couldn't help myself and sent that woman to hell. She won't see the money or the apartment. That was my grandmother's will and I think that my mother, with the attitude she had, didn't deserve anything.

Now she's threatening to take me to court and telling everyone the legend of the ungrateful daughter who abandoned the family that loved and trusted her so much for money. I'm too lazy to fight back against this nonsense. And I simply don't contact my mother and her family. I'm going to move out soon and completely cut them off from my life.
