He walked calmly through the park, enjoying the warm rays of the May sun. The leaves on the trees had already regained their strength and were now rustling in the light wind.
It had been fifteen years since he had left his family. Waldemar remembered that day as if it were yesterday. How he had packed his suitcase and told his wife that he was leaving. That he couldn't stand it any longer. He met someone else. At that moment, he thought he was doing the right thing.
After years of marriage, when Ola had devoted herself entirely to her family, she had become an ordinary housewife in her husband's eyes. Waldemar began to notice that there was a chasm between them. As if they were strangers, speaking different languages. And then he met Ilona. She had that freshness, that spark that Waldek lacked in his relationship with his wife. Ilona looked at him with admiration, listened with interest.
He regained that long-forgotten taste of life and immersed himself in a new romance, like in a whirlpool. So he decided – what was the point of being with his wife anymore? Why torture himself? The decision to leave came easily to him. Conscience? No, it wasn't conscience. He was honest with Ola. He proposed an exchange, he left them the apartment. What more do you need? At first, everything went according to Ilona's plan: passion, romances, dates. But over time the euphoria passed and the difficult everyday life began. Ilona had a completely different character than his ex-wife. She was more demanding, more capricious. She was used to living on a grand scale.
She wanted a beautiful life, expensive things, travel. Waldemar tried to meet her expectations. He worked hard, took extra shifts. But there was still too little money. Arguments, scandals, mutual accusations began.
During their marriage, they even had a daughter. But the birth of a child could not completely improve the relations in the family. Waldek tried to satisfy his wife's needs, but all in vain. One day, after returning home early, Waldek found Ilona in bed with another man. She was not even ashamed and did not look for excuses. She said that she was fed up with her husband and was leaving him.
It turned out that this lover was a wealthy businessman. Ilona found what she wanted… Waldek was alone again and suddenly realized that many years ago he had made a mistake. He had destroyed his family in the name of imaginary happiness… He had betrayed his loved ones – his wife and children. And now, after so many years, he was here again. She was looking at him with wide eyes, full of surprise and… joy — Zuza? – he said uncertainly, not believing his own eyes. The girl nodded, and dimples appeared on her cheeks. Just like Ola's. – Really! – He hadn't seen his children for a long time.
At first, he fulfilled his alimony obligation, but Ilona effectively forced him to stop paying. She demanded more attention and reminded him of the amounts he transferred to Ola for the children. Zuzanna hugged her father, they talked, walking in their favorite park.
Suddenly, a phenomenal woman appeared before his eyes. Persistently familiar, yet completely changed. Ola was suited to family happiness, which she enjoyed thanks to her husband, whom she met some time after Waldek's blow. Zbyszek took care of Aleksandra and the children, took over the role of a father that was missing in the family, and to this day he fulfills it masterfully.
Waldek couldn't get a word out when Ola approached him, all beautiful, smooth and fragrant. He began to apologize to her, already seeing in his mind how they were going back to their shared home together, in desperation he begged for a second chance, but Zbyszek approached them – tall, handsome, grizzled and portly. He smiled charmingly when the gentlemen were introduced to each other by Ola, who was confused by the situation.
Before he knew it, stunned, Zuza had thrust her phone number into his hand and asked him to contact her, and Ola and Zbyszek said polite goodbyes and went their separate ways. Waldek had never regretted his actions so painfully in his life as he did at that very moment. He understood that only a woman well-groomed by her husband could be beautiful even in a kitchen apron, stirring goulash in a steaming pot. Oh… Happiness suits her…
