From real life. “An elderly lady was moved by her children to another apartment”: They needed more space

An old lady moved to another apartment.

Her children sold her apartment because they thought the old lady didn't need that much. They need money, they have their own growing children.

They need a place to live. The old lady was moved to a large apartment building, but the yard was small. And it was full of cars. The playground was small. There was asphalt all around. The woman usually went for a walk, but there was nowhere to walk. In the old yard, she talked to her neighbors, sat on a bench, walked in the nearby park… But here it was asphalt. And there were no trees. No grass. There was no sky either.

She was leaving the store and was met by an old man in a round hat. He had a white beard and a white shirt. He smiled and said: “You probably don't know where to walk and talk? Go behind the house. There is a special area for us. There we gather in the gazebo every day. And we talk. After all, the gazebo is for talking! Come on!” Grandma was delighted. She didn't even know about this place. And she hadn't talked to anyone in so long!

Grandma was so happy! She drank sweet tea, talked to other old people and grandparents. She admired the river and the trees. The weather was great. It was moderately warm. The sun was setting, illuminating everything with its golden rays… Grandma talked and played children's dominoes until dusk. And she returned home happy.

She went there every day. She read the newspapers and played dominoes. She talked to old people in a beautiful gazebo. She admired the sky, the trees, the setting sun, the river… One day, talking quietly, I fell asleep in the gazebo. And in a dream she saw herself getting into a golden boat, sailing down the river with an old man with a white beard, the same one who showed her this place. He promised her he would show her an even better playground… And then the children came to their mother.

They found her on a bench in the neighboring yard. There was still a store there. There was snow and ice all around, and it was January. It was cold, frosty. The cars were parked. There were no trees. You couldn't see the sky behind the skyscrapers. No one knew why the old lady had come to someone's yard and sat on a bench. After all, she had a warm apartment! And money. And food in the fridge. And medicine. And she could walk. And she could call her children – if she was really sick! But she wasn't sick. She felt very well. She was smiling. In her cold hand she held a bone from a child's domino…
