From blocking to friendship. Meta considers Trump a great supporter of free speech and is preparing for cooperation

Mark Zuckerberg's company seeks to actively cooperate with the administration of Donald Trump. And it is not only about issues of free speech.

Meta considers Trump's re-election a positive signal. The company is convinced that his administration will not exert pressure.

«We have a new administration coming in that is far from exerting pressure on companies for the purpose of censorship, and is a great supporter of free speech», — said Meta's new director of global affairs, Joel Kaplan, on Fox News Channel.

Kaplan believes the new Trump administration is returning Meta to the values that Zuckerberg founded his company on. He also said that Meta sees “opportunities to partner” with the Trump administration not only on free speech issues, but also on promoting American businesses and American technological advantages.

«We believe there is a real opportunity to work with the Trump administration to work to ensure freedom of expression at home. … These issues are very important to Meta and our sector. And we are happy to work with the Trump administration to achieve these goals», — he added.

Recall that four years ago, the then Facebook's supervisory board supported an unprecedented decision to block former US President Donald Trump's accounts on Facebook and Instagram. This happened after he praised the people who participated in the Capitol storming on January 6th in his post. The restrictions on his pages remained until 2024 and were lifted on the eve of the presidential election. In parallel, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg accused the administration of Democrat Joe Biden of pressure to censor content. In particular, it was about posts related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week, Meta announced that it would follow the example of Elon Musk's social network X: weaken content moderation and abandon the services of fact-checkers. Experts call this move politically motivated.
