Fraudulent scheme: how a Ukrainian defrauded real estate sellers across the country

A scammer was exposed in Mykolaiv who posed as an official and swindled money. He came up with a scam and misled people about buying real estate.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police in the Mykolaiv region.

A 33-year-old resident of Mykolaiv posed as an employee of a local government body, promising to buy housing with budget funds. On popular online platforms, the attacker found real estate for sale ads, called sellers and convinced them of the need to pay 10-12 thousand hryvnias, allegedly for paperwork. The money was transferred to his friend's bank account.

The Mykolaiv Region Police conducted a search of the fraudster's home, seizing evidence of his illegal activities. During the investigation, several cases of fraud were proven. The suspect was charged under Part 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine («Fraud»), for which he faces up to three years in prison.
