Fraudster swindled a woman out of 11,000 hryvnias by posing as a police officer

A 35-year-old resident of Zhovkva called the victim, an 84-year-old resident of Rivne region, introduced herself as a law enforcement officer and reported that her daughter was in trouble and was allegedly in one of the Lviv district police departments. However, according to the fraudster, «her daughter's problem can be solved» and it will cost 11 thousand hryvnias.

The pensioner believed this fabricated story and transferred the specified amount of money to the attacker's card account via the application, which she appropriated and later spent on her own needs, reports the Lviv region police communications department.

Criminal police investigators and investigators from Police Department No. 2 of Lviv District Police Department No. 1, as well as employees of the Criminal Analysis Department of the Lviv Region Police, were involved in solving the crime. The measures taken by law enforcement officers have identified the perpetrator.

The pre-trial investigation in the criminal proceedings, opened under the procedural guidance of the Zhovkva District Prosecutor's Office under Part 1 of Article 190 (Fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, has been completed. The indictment has been sent to the court for consideration.
