France accused Russia of spreading propaganda through influencers

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said that Russia is trying to promote its propaganda on French social networks through online content creators.

His words are quoted by AFP, according to “European Truth”.

According to Barrot, Russia is trying to manipulate influencers in European countries, including France, and the methods it uses are “various and often change”.

“The recent elections in Moldova, Romania, for example, illustrated the massive use of influencers on social networks, in particular on Twitter, to disrupt the vote,” – he added.

According to the French minister, Paris has data on how Moscow tried to manipulate influencers in various European countries.

“About twenty of them, including nine French ones, are said to have accepted the offer. The investigation is ongoing, and we call on content creators and their subscribers to be extremely vigilant about these threats to our public debate,” – added Barrot.

The French Foreign Minister also called on European states to “stand out as a united front and choose the right tools to respond” to these threats.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Le Monde newspaper, citing a source in the security services, reported that more than 2,000 influencers were contacted by people close to the Kremlin to spread pro-Russian propaganda.

Recall that before this, it became known how influencers in Romania distributed content in support of anti-Western presidential candidate Călin Georgescu.
