Found a firecracker recipe on TikTok: 9-year-old boy in Chernivtsi received severe eye burns

In Chernivtsi, funds are being raised for 9-year-old boy Taras, who received severe burns to his face and both eyes. The child was injured while making a homemade firecracker, the recipe for which was found on the Internet.

The boy's mother, Natalia Moldavan, told molbuk.ua about this.

The boy is currently undergoing treatment at the Filatov Institute of Eye Diseases and Tissue Therapy. He needs to have surgery.

“It happened last Thursday, at about 5:00 p.m. We live in Lenkivtsi. Taras was walking with a friend, and they decided to try out a firecracker recipe. There were simple ingredients. They poured all this into a half-liter plastic bottle, and Taras started shaking it. He was supposed to put it on the ground after that, but he didn't have time – the bottle exploded in his hands,” – says the woman.

At first, the boy was taken to the city children's hospital, but the doctors there advised him to go to Odessa to a specialized medical facility.

“Taras received severe burns to his face and eyes. We immediately took him to the city children's hospital. There they provided first aid and recommended going to the institute in Odessa. The next day we left. We have been here for treatment since last Saturday,” – continues Ms. Natalia.

The woman says that after what she experienced, the child is in a state of shock.

“Taras has severe burns to both eyes. He cannot see at all with his right eye, and half with his left. Doctors say that there is a chance to save his left eye, but unfortunately, his right eye, no. He will have to have surgery in the coming days,” says Ms. Natalia.

The family does not know how long the child will be in the hospital and how long rehabilitation will last. To save at least part of his vision, significant funds are needed.
