Explosion at Rheinmetall plant in Spain: six workers injured

Six people were injured in an explosion at a munitions factory of the German concern Rheinmetall in Spain.

This is reported by EFE and El Pais.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of January 30 in the province of Murcia in the southeast of the country. Six men aged between 30 and 52, who are employees of the plant, were injured. Five of them were taken to hospital. Two of them suffered burns of varying degrees.

According to one version, the explosion occurred at one of the company's fields, although the exact causes of the incident are still being investigated.

The explosion caused a fire near the warehouse, which engulfed about 3,000 m2 of bushes and shrubs. The fire was extinguished by 15 employees of the municipal fire and rescue service with four units of equipment.

As Barron's notes with reference to AFP, an incident occurred at the same plant a year ago, during which two workers suffered burns.

According to El Pais, in addition to the plant in Murcia, Rheinmetall in Spain owns enterprises in Madrid, Cáceres, Burgos, Albacete and Asturias.
