Everything is going to hell! France is a big sale

Piermont/AFP

Just like the crumbling French industry, sold off piecemeal by our elites who no longer know how to gorge themselves on pocket money other than by selling off the jewels of French industry, at a time of recession in manufacturing production, and at a time when our major brands prefer to relocate, the FNAC, the former flagship of cultural distribution, is reducing its sails and closing one of its flagship stores.

The Fnac des Champs is closing down for good. 74 avenue des Champs Élysée is up for grabs. One of the last cultural brands is leaving these formerly mythical places, like others before them, fleeing the fading of what was once one of the most beautiful avenues in the world, and which is now nothing but bling bling and show-offs.

Exorbitant rents combined with exponentially increasing charges have taken their toll on Max Théret's brand founded in 1954.

After Gaumont and recently UGC Normandie, it is the whole “cultural” spirit that is fading.

Starting this Friday and until January 12, a big sale will take place at the boutique on the Parisian avenue in order to sell off the stock, before closing the doors.

Let's bet that the place will quickly find a buyer. There is no shortage of brands with a frivolous character boasting of belonging to the world of luxury to outbid each other to acquire the 2700 m2 of 74. But for how long… the wheel turns faster than we imagine in this ecosystem.

The 89 employees were offered a reassignment to the different locations of the FNAC-Darty brand, an employee confirmed to us.

We can only hope that the FNAC on Avenue des Ternes, another legendary address of the brand, in the building constructed by the architect Marcel Oudin, will hold the coup.
