As evidenced by the results of a survey conducted in 14 EU countries in May 2024 by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), from 1/3 to half of those surveyed believe that the war will end with a peace agreement. 31% of respondents in Greece consider the Russian victory most likely. Of all 14 countries surveyed, only in Estonia the prevailing opinion (38%) was that Ukraine would win.
Meanwhile, 58% of Ukrainians are confident in their victory and the support of their allies; 30% believe that the war will end in a peaceful settlement as a result of negotiations, 1% believe that Russia will win.
Poll also showed that most countries are against increasing military spending, with the exception of Poland (53% in favor), Estonia (45%), Sweden (41%) and Germany (40%). Most Europeans support participation in the war through indirect means. In particular, technical assistance to Ukraine and an increase in the supply of weapons and ammunition. The supply of ammunition and weapons to the Ukrainian army is considered a bad idea in Bulgaria (63%), Greece (54%) and Italy (53%).
