The European Union is preparing sanctions against a dozen Russian individuals and legal entities who were involved in disinformation operations and other hybrid activities.
Bloomberg writes about this, citing its own sources.
It is noted that such restrictions will apply to several Russian intelligence groups, as well as government officials and media entrepreneurs.
In addition, the EU also proposes to impose further sanctions on Belarus, namely on about 20 people accused of human rights violations or those who benefit materially from their ties to self-proclaimed President Alexander Lukashenko.
Recall that earlier, EU ambassadors agreed on the 15th package of sanctions against Russia in response to Russia's war against Ukraine.
The package provides for the introduction of restrictions against even more people and companies. It also targets organizations in Russia and third countries that indirectly contribute to military and technological assistance to the Russian Federation by circumventing export restrictions.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the introduction of the new sanctions and stressed that the restrictions primarily target Russia's “shadow fleet”.
