The other day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi was shown a new model of barrage ammunition – it is a drone capable of striking at a distance of up to 100 kilometers. The name of this drone still remains a secret, but it has already been dubbed an analogue of the Russian “Lancet”.
What is the main difference and advantage of this drone among others, military expert Oleg Zhdanov explained for Channel 24. He also told how the drone can be modernized in the future.
How the drone works
The peculiarity of this drone is that it has already received the first signs of artificial intelligence, noted Zhdanov. First of all, we are talking about electronic vision.
The configuration of possible targets is stored in the drone's memory. When it enters the zone of radio-electronic warfare or loses contact with the operator, it switches to automatic mode and starts an independent search for targets.
If the location of the object on the terrain coincides with the location stored in its memory, it can independently hit this object.
That is, the drone does not depends on the work of the enemy's electronic warfare, this is its peculiarity, – emphasized the military analyst.
In addition, the depth of 100 kilometers to which the drone can fly is a distance of the operational-tactical level, which includes the enemy's reserves.
Possibilities of modernization
Zhdanov noted that the drone already has the prospect of further development. It can work with a reconnaissance drone that will guide it to find targets. That is, to lead and set the target search area for fire damage. In particular, to control that two drones do not hit the same target.
This is a very promising development, if we put it on the assembly line, it will become an effective weapon. Although the first option with overcoming enemy EW – has already become a big breakthrough, – summarized Zhdanov.
