Engineers from the Netherlands have created the longest bicycle in the world

Eight engineering enthusiasts from the Netherlands built the world's longest bicycle, 55.16m long. The team was headed by 39-year-old Ivan Schalk, who had been planning it since childhood. 

Creating the bike was a long process. Ivan started this project in 2018, involving local enthusiasts in his home village of Princenbeek. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we had to take a break for almost two years.

The front and rear parts were manufactured in-house, while the central part was purchased from a company that manufactures long steel structures.

Years of calculations and construction culminated in an official attempt to set a record, when two of the team — one at the front behind the steering wheel, and the other at the back on the pedals — cycled a 100m distance to win the Guinness World Records title.

They also achieved another longest tandem bicycle record by adding more pedals and completing the distance with multiple riders.

«From the view of security, we have left nothing to chance», — said Ivan. «You can see this, for example, in the fact that the cyclists are not outside the structure, but inside it».

Now the bike will be exhibited in the Prinsenbeek Local History Museum.
