Engineers began to create the first robots that can work without electricity

According to scientists, these robots will be able to perform their functions in conditions difficult for life.

Engineers have developed a method by which robots can perform complex functions without the use of electricity. In particular, researchers from King's College London have developed a new type of tiny circuit that interacts by changing fluid pressure, writes Interesting Engineering.

“This is the first time in the world that it opens up the possibility of creating a new generation of robots whose bodies could work independently of the built-in control center, and this space can potentially be used for more complex software based on artificial intelligence,” the team of researchers said in a statement.

The publication said that soft robots are known for their flexibility and safety. They began to be used in various fields. For the most part, these robots are controlled by systems using electromagnetic valves, regulators and pumps, which limits their mobility.

“To solve this problem, scientists are investigating new designs of soft valves and pumps that can be integrated into the body operation, increasing efficiency and allowing it to be used in harsh conditions. These soft valves, which control the flow of fluid by bending the tubes, reduce the need for many control elements,” the material adds. 

To for example, these robots can work in places where it is impossible to conduct electricity or where there is a high level of radiation, for example, in Chernobyl, or in rooms with high electrical voltage. In addition, these works are designed for use in low-income areas with unstable access to electricity.
