Geothermal wells can meet the growing demand for clean energy, says energy company Fervo.
US-based Fervo Energy said it had achieved record performance for a geothermal well at Cape Station and pushed the limits of high-temperature drilling by successfully drilling wells above 220°C. This is reported by Business Wire.
It is reported that Fervo drilled 15 wells at Cape Station last year. According to the company's statement, during a 30-day test, it managed to achieve a maximum flow rate of 107 kg/s at high temperatures, which made it possible to generate more than 10 MW of electricity.

The publication also notes that Fervo previously also announced a 70% reduction in geothermal well drilling time compared to last year. In addition, the company managed to make progress in drilling at high temperatures. The highest reservoir temperature reached to date exceeded 220° C.
The 400MW Cape Station is expected to start supplying electricity to the grid in 2026 and be fully operational by 2028.
“The achievements announced today by Fervo confirm that next-generation geothermal energy is on the verge of commercial success,” — said the first deputy assistant secretary of the US Department of Energy's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
