Emmy Awards: This popular series triumphs at this 2024 edition

This Sunday, September 15, the 76th Emmy Awards ceremony took place, a 2024 edition that distinguished many productions including one of them that literally triumphed by achieving a record by becoming the most awarded series in History.

This series is sweeping the Emmy Awards

Like every year, the Emmy Awards reward the best in television in the United States. During this 2024 edition, two productions particularly stood out, including one of them completely blew everything up by achieving a record of leaving with no less than 18 trophies. This series which has afforded itself the luxury of becoming the most rewarded series in History. We are obviously talking about Shōgun, this drama series which is the adaptation of the novel by James Clavell and which explores the power struggles in 17th century Japan broadcast on the FX channel.

Despite many dialogues in Japanese, the series was favorite to leave with the trophy for best drama and that's what happened this Sunday evening. The show led by Hiroyuki Sanada thus becomes the first non-English-speaking series to win this award. His lead actor won the Emmy Award for Best Actor and said that “it was a dream project where East meets West.” The FX show didn't stop there as in total, he walked away with 18 awards. His co-star, Anna Sawai was crowned Best Actress. Justin Marks, one of the writers, congratulated the organization for having the courage to “validate a very expensive, subtitled Japanese period series, the climax of which takes place around a poetry competition“.

The Netflix production, My Little Reindeer, which is inspired by a true story in which a London bartender is harassed by a woman with mental illness, went home with the Emmy Awards for best mini-series. Its lead actor, Richard Gadd, was awarded the award for best actor in a mini-series. The award for Best Actress in a Miniseries went to Jodie Foster in True Detective: Night Country.

On the comedy side, it was the HBO series Hacks that took home the trophy against The Bear with Jeremy Allen White who took home the statuette for Best Actor in a Comedy and his partner, Ebon Moss-Bachrach received the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
