American billionaire Elon Musk and a close adviser of US President-elect Donald Trump on Wednesday called the division of powers between the European Commission and the European Parliament undemocratic.
Musk wrote about this in his social network X (Twitter), reports “European Truth”.
Musk criticized the approval of the new composition of the European Commission, which took place the day before. This became the last of his series of public critical statements against institutions and politicians in the EU.
“This is undemocratic. The EU Parliament should vote directly on issues, and not delegate powers to the European Commission”, – wrote Musk.
This is undemocratic. The EU parliament should vote directly on matters, not give up authority to the EU commission. https://t.co/EtCa73M1M3

He was commenting on a video in which Cypriot MEP Phidias Panayiotou, a former blogger, criticizes the voting process for the new European Commission – they say, MEPs cannot vote for individual members of the commission, but must approve the entire composition as a package.
However, the European Parliament has the opportunity to vote directly for candidates for the positions of European Commissioners. During the appointment process, candidates are interviewed by MEPs and voted on separately in committees – MEPs can approve or reject each candidate. Then, 720 MEPs vote again for the entire commission in plenary.
Elon Musk has repeatedly made harsh statements against officials and politicians in the EU. In October, he engaged in an online spat with European Commission Vice President Vera Jourova, calling her “the embodiment of banal bureaucratic evil.”
Commenting on reports of the collapse of Olaf Scholz's government in Germany, Musk wrote that the German chancellor was “a fool.”
Musk's political activism increased sharply this summer, when he endorsed Trump for president and poured millions of dollars into Trump's campaign.
Musk is a close advisor to the president-elect, even accompanying him on a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Musk will head the newly created Ministry for Efficiency of the Trump administration along with former US presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
