Ecuador declared a state of emergency state due to energy crisis

Ecuador has declared a state of emergency due to an energy crisis caused by a drought that has affected hydroelectricity production, leading to rationing of electricity and its imports from Colombia.

Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa has declared a state of emergency due to the effects of the country's electricity crisis. Ecuavisa TV network reports this, UNN reports.

Details

Ecuador has suffered from a drought that affects the production of electricity at the country's hydroelectric power plants. Hydropower is the country's most important source of energy.

On Tuesday, authorities announced power rationing and electricity imports from neighboring Colombia, but at the same time there were reports from Colombia that the country was halting electricity exports to Ecuador for the same reason.
