Dragon Ball Z: Gohan's 6 Best Forms

Revealed in the first episodes of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan has continued to gain power throughout the manga by the late Akira Toriyama. From a fearful and whiny young kid, Gohan has become an experienced warrior to whom we owe some honorable feats of arms. It is through training and an enormous basic potential that he is considered one of the best fighters in the universe. The opportunity to look back on his margin of progression and the different forms he has acquired.

#6 Gohan's Base Form

It is in his base form that Gohan reveals to readers his considerable potential, much more than his father at the same age. By measuring himself against Radditz, the spectators then understand that with training, Gohan has the possibility of surpassing many other warriors who are nevertheless reputed to be powerful. In this form, Gohan was able to help his father and Krilin against Vegeta on Earth, and went in search of the crystal balls on Namek, facing serious opponents such as Guldo or Recoome. A form that obviously has its limits. We see him later in the saga, when he calls himself the Great Saiyaman and tries to purge the Earth of crime, shortly before the Buu arc. By focusing on his studies rather than his training, he loses power.

#5 Giant Monkey

Despite his power and his more than imposing stature, Gohan in his Giant Monkey form does not surpass the Super Saiyan 1 stage.There are many reasons. To transform into Ōzaru, Gohan needs a full moon. On the other hand, while his strength is considerably increased, it remains very vulnerable. The big weak point is his tail. When cut off, it unfortunately no longer grows back. Of course, he particularly hurt Vegeta during the Saiyan arc, giving a big boost to Son Goku who was on the verge of death.

#4 Super Saiyan 1

Gohan is the youngest character in the timeline to achieve a Super Saiyan form.It is in the Room of Spirit and Time during his training with his father before the Cell Games that he manages to reach this stage. He even manages to maintain his SSJ1 form passively (outside of combat) thanks to Goku. However, Gohan lags behind during the Cell Games, his transformation being weaker than Goku's. Which is quite normal, since the latter has perfected his form for many years, and has superior fighting skills.

#3 Super Saiyan 2

There is a real power gap between the SSJ1 and SSJ2 forms. We see it when Gohan reaches the second stage and pulverizes Cell during the Cell Games. However, he reaches this stage without mastering his power. Filled with anger following the death of C-16, he increases his strength tenfold and multiplies it considerably, becoming at this precise moment the most powerful being in the entire saga.Not even Goku and even less Vegeta could compete with him. We will have to wait for the Buu arc and Goku's rise to the SSJ3 stage to see another warrior surpass him. Still, Gohan in Super Saiyan 2 remains one of the most popular characters, as he is so charismatic.

#2 Ultimate Gohan

Also called Mystic Gohan, this form is one of the most powerful that Gohan can acquire. He obtains it after Old Kaō Shin awakens his hidden power after a 24-hour session. A ritual that allows him to awaken all his hidden potential. In this form, Gohan does not sport the yellow hair characteristic of the Saiyan stages, and sports a white aura. At this stage,  he manages to defeat Buu easily in his Super Buu form, while Gotenks faced a very disputed match. Enough to start the debate, who of Ultimate Gohan or the fusion of the two young sons of Vegeta and Goku is the strongest. 

#1 Beast Form

In his Beast form, Can Gohan surpass Goku?A question that has been invading fandoms since the end of the broadcast of Dragon Ball Super. In the film Dragon Ball Super Super Heroreleased in 2022, Goku's son unleashed his power to reach the Gohan Beast stage. A huge boost in power that gives him a purple hue and red pupils. The explanation for this new form comes in the continuity of the film. In chapter 102, he trains on Beerus' planet, and explains to his astonished father that he can take this form whenever he wants, because he has learned to control the flow of power at his disposal. With this level, everyone, or almost everyone, agrees to say that he can now compete with Goku in Ultra Instinct mode, and more, that he is certainly one of the most powerful characters in “DBZ”. Something that many had probably forgotten since the beginning of the Buu arc.
