They're cowards. A lot of people in the industry are afraid of the repercussions if Trump wins the election. And to me, that's heartbreaking. I like to think that we, as an industry, are better than that., and I'm constantly reminded that's not the case.

According to producer Daniel Bekerman, Tom Ortenberg is “the only distributor who had the courage to tackle this issue and not be intimidated by these threats.” A grassroots fundraising campaign was also necessary to raise money to produce The Apprentice. Forced to seek independent funding options outside the traditional Hollywood system, it had a complicated gestation, which bodes well for future political films… The final word goes to Sebastian Stan, who told Discussing Film that “this film was almost banned from release in the US, which in my eyes makes it even more essential viewing“.
