Disabled TikToker Describes Conditions in Polish Hospital: “I Was Offered to Wash Myself at the Bedside”

Former judoka Łukasz Wala became disabled after a dramatic car accident. The 25-year-old uses a wheelchair. He shares his everyday experiences and struggles with the barriers he often encounters online.

Tiktoker regularly posts videos on social media, wanting to raise public awareness of the challenges faced by wheelchair users every day. Even simple, everyday activities.

Wala was recently hospitalized with a bladder infection. As he admitted, he doesn't remember that period very well, and not only because of the illness. It turned out to be mission impossible to find a bathroom where a disabled person could take a shower.

He had trouble taking a shower

“I'm in the hospital and I wanted to take a bath, but it turned out that the bathrooms look like this: a forty-centimeter threshold with no chair, so there's no way to even take a shower. But I was offered to wash myself at bed, or a nurse comes and washes me,” Wala confessed.

He added that this is an exceptionally strange and unpleasant experience for him. As he emphasizes, he is able to bathe on his own, he just needs the right conditions for this. After talking to the staff, he learned that he can use “after talking, it turned out that suddenly there is a renovated bathroom for women in the ward next door.”
