Deadpool & Wolverine: This other cult mutant should have been killed in the Marvel film

Released on July 24, Deadpool & Wolverine was a particularly deadly film for the mutants of 20th Century Fox. Indeed, the latest addition to the MCU uses the multiverse to bid farewell to the old Marvel franchises produced by Fox. And this other cult mutant should have also died in the Marvel film.

Deadpool & Wolverine: Huge Hit

With over $1.3 billionDeadpool & Wolverine is a new success for Marvel Studios. Directed by Shawn Levy, this third installment of the adventures of Deadpool is a film with several hats. First, it allows to introduce Deadpool, Wolverine and the rest of their universe into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A way to allow Ryan Reynoldsto join his little friends. Then, Deadpool 3 is also a sequel to the two previous parts. Which allows to create a continuity in the Marvel universe of the late 20th Century Fox.

Indeed, remember, the major was bought by Disney in 2019. And so, Fox characters such as the X-Men and Fantastic Four now belong to Disney. Deadpool & Wolverine is therefore also a pretext to say goodbye to iconic actors and characters from previous Marvel sagas such as Tyler Man as Sabretooth, Aaron Standordas Pyro, Jennifer Garner as Elektra or Wesley Snipes as Blade.

A carnage

And what's cool about Deadpool & Wolverine is that the film doesn't spare its characters. Shawn Levy's film is a carnage for these old Marvel characters. Most of them are assassinated by Deadpool, Alioth or Cassandra Nova. This is the case, in bulk, of The Human Torch, the Scourge, Sabretooth or Pyro. And another character could have been added to this list. Indeed, Colossus almost appeared in the film.

This is Ryan Reynolds himself who revealed the information on his social networks. Ryan Reynolds was commenting on the slow motion sequence of Deadpool & Wolverine, punctuated by the music Like a Prayer by Madonna.A sequence that left its mark, also present in the various trailers. Ryan Reynolds then explained that when he imagined this scene, he wanted Deadpool to be with Colossus. He even specified that the character dubbed by Stefan Kapicicin the previous two films was supposed to die, angering Wade:

I’ve had Like a Prayer in mind since 2017. I absolutely wanted the music to be in Deadpool 3. Before Wolverine was even a hypothesis, I wanted to propose a sequence that was almost identical, but with Colossus. He would have died in the next sequence, putting Deadpool in a state of pure rage and vengeance. All of this lent itself perfectly to Madonna’s song.

Ultimately the arrival of Wolverine changed the game. In the end, Colossus barely appears in the film, but at least he's still alive.
